Wellbeing Enhancement & Resiliency Task Force

Wellbeing Enhancement & Resiliency Committee (WERC)

The University of Hawaii at Mānoa, John A Burns School of Medicine ( JABSOM) has cultivated a diverse learning community, committed to excellence and leadership, with a mission that is recognized as part of the fabric of Hawaiʻi. We have the skills, talent and heart to deliver excellent clinical care and to discover, research, disseminate, and publish medical innovations. We strive to Learn, Work and Live with Purpose and Joy.

We have before us this challenging opportunity to prioritize our wellbeing individually as a human right, and as a lead medical organization serving our community. We are grateful and appreciate the participants of our 2024 Talk Story listening sessions which have helped provide insight about wellbeing; these results and recommendations are shared in the 2024 Task Force Report. When we live with joy in research, education and medical healing in Hawai’i, we embody being a workplace and educational organization where people feel recognized and have purpose in their daily lives professionally and personally. Meeting and interacting with people who enJOY their education and workplace is one of the finest distinctions we can have in medicine and what can help JABSOM be its best. Join us on this ongoing journey as we discover the path and steps to an enhanced culture of wellbeing and resilience.

The committee will lead wellbeing strategic planning and implementation to enhance the resiliency of learners, faculty, and staff. The committee will foster a sustainable, psychologically brave and culturally sensitive learning environment and workplace culture.
