Community Health

The major goal of the Community Health and Service Program (courses MDED 581-584) is for first-year medical students to explore methods for promoting health and improving the quality of life for patients by working with a community organization throughout their entire first year. These community health organizations are fulfilling a health need of our community and medical student participation has a direct benefit to their clients.

During the first week of orientation, first-year medical students attend a Community Health Fair where community health sites showcase and encourage students to participate in their organizations. Students then choose which programs they would like to work with for the entire year. Sites select students based on how many students they can accommodate.
