Dr. Allen Hixon, Chair of JABSOM's Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, was named 2025 Physician of the Year at Pali Momi by Hawaiʻi Pacific Health.

Celebrated by HPH for his role in transforming the relationship between JABSOM and Pali Momi, Dr. Hixon led the transition of the Family Medicine Residency Program to Pali Momi.

"Seven or eight years ago, we were able to expand the residency with the support from Hawaiʻi Pacific Health," Hixon said. "Pali Momi is just an amazing home for the Family Medicine Residency Program. The support that we've received from the leadership here, as well as all of the physicians across the many specialties who teach our residents, has made this a very special place for us."

The ceremony took place at Pali Momi on April 1st, with many attendees from the Family Medicine Residency Program.

“Since I joined the department 5 years ago, we've gone through a period of rapid change and Chip has provided a steady hand for guidance through it all,” Dr. Thomas Quattlebaum, DFMCH Assistant Professor & Family Medicine Residency Program Director said. “I always appreciate his willingness to connect on an individual level and build relationships. This recognition is well deserved for all the work he has put in behind the scenes to grow and enhance our program!”

"Folks have come to know that primary care is really the foundation for the healthcare system and that we need to continue to work to train bright young doctors and family medicine residents to work not only here on Oʻahu but throughout the state to support the health of the people of Hawaiʻi," Hixon said.

Hixon and the Family Medicine Residency Program will continue to fulfill that mission as the program is set to expand to Kauaʻi next year.
