Lyn Hamamura was fired up about this year’s Biomedical Sciences and Health Disparities Symposium and she had every right to be.
“This year we had posters from all University of Hawaiʻi (UH) campuses, including the community colleges on the neighbor Islands, plus Hawaiʻi Pacific University and Chaminade University,” said Hamamura, Administrative Assistant in the UH Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Cell and Molecular Biology Department and the dedicated ringmaster of the competition.
“UH Hilo is sending more and more students to the Symposium through the INBRE undergraduate program each year,” she continued, “And this year a graduate student from the University of Guam Cancer Research Center submitted a poster for the first time.”
She offered a shout-out of thanks to Mari Kim and her staff for the great job they did for their INBRE 4 (IDeAs Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) Grant Session at the Symposium. “The undergraduates that they brought in, especially from the other islands were in awe of our beautiful Kakaʻakocampus,” she said.
