JABSOM's Huaka'i Initiative ignites the passion of our future healthcare heroes! Launched in 2023, this program empowers youth to explore exciting careers in medicine. Through hands-on workshops, teachers and students learn to bring clinical scenarios to life, diving into patient simulations and discovering the numerous healthcare career options. The JABSOM Huaka'i serves as a hub, connecting students with opportunities to develop essential skills and embark on their own journeys to careers in healthcare and science.

Paging Dr. Sleuth: The STEM Detective Workshops
Interactive and engaging, "The Paging Dr. Sleuth" workshops enable students to harness the critical thinking and problem solving skills needed to unravel a medical mystery. Real-life clinical scenarios, such as cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis and trauma enable participants to learn a critical clinical skill that may one day save a life! Patient simulation brings the clinical case to life, allowing students to experience the roles and responsibilites of key members of the healthcare team and helping them to explore careers in medicine.
This spring, "Paging Dr. Sleuth" will be traveling to Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi islands to bring this unique learning experience to high school students considering careers in healthcare and science. The journey to medicine is not always easy, but connecting with others who have gone before will definitely encourage the next generation of aspiring healthcare professionals. Take it from two of our current medical students, Jamie and Kasey Emoto, sisters who grew up on Kauaʻi and are commited to giving back to their community.
