The national Gold Humanism Honor Society office established National Solidarity Day for Compassionate Care in 2011 to highlight the nation-wide movement promoting provider-patient relationships based on caring, personalization, and mutual respect. Since 2016, many GHHS chapters around the country have celebrated a week of events instead of just one day.


This is an annual, week-long event hosted by our honor society to promote compassionate care throughout many fun activities! The Gold Humanism Honor Society at JABSOM celebrates Compassionate Care Week with the following:

  • Cards of Encouragement
    • All week in the MEB Lobby Entrance.
  • Thank You Posters to Residents
    • All week, hype up your favorite residents with encouraging notes.
  • Interactive Bulletin Board
    • Theme: Small acts, big impact (MEB 3rd floor).
  • Hawaii Food Bank Canned Food Drive
    • All week in the MEB Lobby Entrance
  • GHHS Essay Contest
    • Cash prizes to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The prompt will be released soon.
  • Compassionate Care Rounds
    • Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 6:30 to 6:30pm in MEB 301 and on Zoom. Food will be provided. RSVP here by Monday, 2/9.
  • Dr. Robert Phillips earlier that same day (Thurs, 2/12) on Medical Professionalism and Social Accountability. ss
  • Humanism Movie Night: The Father
    • Thursday, Feb. 12 from 5:30 to 7:00pm in MEB 304. Food will be provided. RSVP here by Monday, 2/9.
  • Guest Speaker David Kalir, MS, DO
    • Friday, Feb. 13 from 5:30 to 6:30pm in MEB 301. Please join us for a talk given by Dr. David Kalir, the medical program director for palliative medicine at the Pali Momi Medical Center, chair of the Pali Momi Bioethics Committee, and section chief for palliative care across Hawai'i Pacific Health. This is an incredible opportunity to learn about his thoughts on humanism in medicine. The event will also be held via Zoom, with a Chun Wah Kam dinner! RSVP here by Monday, 2/9.
