Living with Facial / Eye Disfigurement in 2024 – An Insider’s Perspective

With Dr. Zali O’Dea, Founder, Karibu Anawim

An Insider’s Perspective People living with facial / eye disfigurements face stigma. They may be shunned, spoken down to, avoided, or stared at. This interactive talk covers the ins-and-outs of living with a facial eye disfigurement (FED) from an insider perspective. Dr. Zali O’Dea, who is from Australia, lives with acquired third nerve palsy. She will share psychological and psychosocial aspects, the need for appropriate training, offer information and increase levels of understanding and comfort.

In 2015, Dr. O’Dea founded Karibu Anawim, which means “Welcome to the Way of Victory,” to support people living with FED and those who are Facially Disfigured (FD). For all audiences. Professionals, students, and the
general public are welcome.
