Tis the Season! JABSOM invites all students to submit art for our 2024 Holiday Card. The winning design will be used by JABSOM as our official holiday card for the school. This contest is sponsored by our very own JABSOM alum, Kathryn Ko, MD Class of 1983 and the Ko 'Iki Museum at JABSOM.
Artwork should reflect a combination of JABSOM, Hawaiʻi and the Holiday Season.
Any undergraduate or graduate student currently attending the John A. Burns School of Medicine in good academic and judicial standing. Multiple entries from the same artist are acceptable.
Entries will be accepted until 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2nd. Artwork must be submitted electronically via the online entry form.
DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS:
NOTE: A high resolution image of at least 6000 pixels wide and 300dpi will be requested of the winning submission. Artwork files may be edited to reflect final language, messaging and JABSOM brand standards. JABSOM also reserves the right to alter the submitted artwork to ensure it meets accessibility and other parameters.
REPRODUCTION RIGHTS:JABSOM will retain all reproduction rights to submitted artwork with credit given to the artist. JABSOM agrees not to sell any of the artwork or any reproduction of the artwork. Artists warrant that they are the sole proprietor of the artwork and agree to assign all copyright and other intellectual property rights in the artwork to JABSOM. Entries must be original concept and constitute an original work and must not infringe on the protected rights of other artists or violate any applicable copyright laws.
AWARDS:
Sponsored by Dr. Ko and the Ko'Iki Museum at JABSOM our finalists will be chosen by an internal panel of judges and announced via email in mid-October where our winners will receive the following prizes: Our first place winner will receive a gift valued at $500, second place winner a gift valued at $250 and our third place winner, a gift valued at $100 (you get to choose your gift from Target). The winning artwork will be shared as part of JABSOM’s 2024 Holiday Season message.

Dr. Ko graduated from JABSOM 1983 and completed training at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. She also earned a Master’s of Fine Art in 2012. Her neurosurgery practice and art studio are located in New York City. She is the Artist in Residence at the Living Museum and served as the inaugural Artist in Residence for the American Medical Women's Association. Her paintings, drawings, cartoons and videos can be viewed on TikTok and Instagram (@doc_ambidexter). In 2024, she brought the Ko 'Iki Mini-Museum to JABSOM, which is an interactive art display curated by JABSOM 'ohana.
