Elizabeth Chen Christenson, MD, LAc

Dr. Elizabeth Chen Christenson, MD, LAc is the founding director of CHI Medical Center (Comprehensive Health Innovations) in Kailua. Her private practice incorporates family medicine, integrative medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), bridging eastern and western medical modalities. In addition to her private practice, she is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM), John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawai‘i Mānoa and Committee Coordinator for Chinese Medicine at JABSOM for the new establishment of a graduate degree program for physicians in Traditional Chinese Medicine. As part of her teaching outreach for JABSOM, she also mentors senior medical students in their CAM rotation studies and practicum.

Dr. Christenson is a certified therapeutic harp practitioner and has released a CD entitled Meditative Therapeutic Harp. With a diversified cultural background and bi-lingual, she is active in multi-cultural community health services including teaching Medical Qigong classes at Castle Medical Center and has produced a Medical Qigong DVD. In her holistic private practice, she coaches patients on healthy lifestyles and preventive medicine and custom designs healing protocols using integrative medicine for pain and allergy elimination, management and alleviation of acute and chronic degenerative disorders and emotional wellbeing. Her therapeutic model is an integration of allopathic, traditional and energetic techniques including select pharmaceuticals, herbology, nutrition, acupuncture and body-mind-spirit meditative protocols.

Following the philosophy that patients are ultimately responsible for their own health, Dr. Christenson encourages a patient/physician partnership in customized health care management.
