Lawrence P. A. Burgess, MD, FACS
Dr. Lawrence Burgess is currently Professor of Surgery, and Director of Medical Student Education in Surgery at the UH Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine. A Honolulu native, he is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). Following his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Cancer and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University.
He returned to UH in 2002, following his retirement from the military. He serves as an administrator, teacher, and researcher. He has also helped to direct the Internal Giving campaign for JABSOM for the past 4 years. His research interests surround his specialty in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (Ear, Nose, and Throat - ENT), and also general medical areas of interest, such as telemedicine. He has published 66 scientific articles, 1 book, and 5 book chapters. In the community, he serves on the board of the American Cancer Society.
As a practicing ENT surgeon at The Queen’s Medical Center, he manages general diseases of the ear, nose, and throat. This includes dizziness and vertigo, the current topic of discussion. His clinical area expertise is management of diseases of the nose and sinuses.
On a personal level, he enjoys golf, music, fishing, and travel.
