JABSOM Alumni Association hosts 2nd virtual CME
Based on the positive response to the first online symposium last October, the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Alumni Association held its second virtual medical symposium on Saturday, April 12. Moderated by Ryon Nakasone (JABSOM MD 2006), the event attracted over 100 attendees on Zoom and offered a great line-up of speakers and topics. Dr. Elizabeth “Libby” Char (JABSOM MD 1991) provided an update on COVID-19 in Hawaiʻi; Dr. Brent Matsuda (JABSOM MD 2012) and Dr. Jordan Lee (JABSOM MD 2010) discussed complications seen in COVID-19 patients, and some of the work being done to assist in the rehabilitation of these patients; and Dr. Shaylin Chock (JABSOM MD 2007) shared what we should know about the mental health impact of COVID-19 on children and teenagers. Additionally, Drs. Daniel Sugai (JABSOM MD 2012) and Kristi Lopez (JABSOM MD 2008) were our featured alumni spotlights!
It was a very interesting and informative 3-hour program, which also included Dean Jerris Hedges and Associate Dean Lee Buenconsejo-Lum (JABSOM MD 1994) providing an update on current initiatives at JABSOM and summarizing how the medical school has responded to challenges brought about by the pandemic.
Although we could not be in person, the group had a great time, learned a lot, earned CME credit and enjoyed the fellowship of sharing an afternoon with other JABSOM alumni.
