The Healthy Hawaiʻi Initiative: Recent highlights from 20 years of collaboration with the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health and University of Hawaiʻi Public Health

DOH Established the Health Hawaiʻi Initiative (HHI) as a statewide effort to encourage healthy lifestyles and promote environments, policies and system changes to support them. DOH-HHI built in the capacity for evaluation and research by partnering with the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa, Office of Public Health Studies, to create the HHI Evaluation Team. Originally, the HHI evaluation work focused primarily on reducing tobacco use, physical inactivity and poor nutrition. The HHI Evaluation Team has expanded their evaluation work to include chronic disease management programs that are priorities for DOH’s Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Division (CDPHPD).

HHIET members and DOH program leads will collaboratively discuss three recent projects on:
(1) Undiagnosed diabetes, (2) A state-level nutrition intervention with 7-11 stores, (3) A flavor tobacco ban.

For questions about accessibility or to request accommodations, please contact Office of Public Health Studies at or 808.956.8577 at least 1 week prior to the event.
