Message from Dean Jerris Hedges
Site visit scheduled for January 29 – February 1, 2017
The process leading up to our LCME accreditation site visit is well underway. LCME accreditation is substantial and signifies that national standards for the structure, function, and performance of the medical school are being met. The LCME accreditation process also facilitates a thorough review of our accomplishments, goals and progress, and gives us an opportunity to evaluate and identify our strengths and challenges in order to implement continuous improvements and maintenance of excellence in medical education and research.
The evaluation by the LCME involves site inspections, extensive reviews of records and interviews of faculty, staff and students at the school of medicine and its partner community hospitals. JABSOM’s last accreditation visit took place in 2008, in which an eight year accreditation (maximum length) was awarded.
Throughout the process leading up to the site visit, many of our faculty, staff, and clinical partners will be actively engaged in helping to answer survey questions and participate in the institutional self-study. The self-study is designed to provide an important opportunity for the JABSOM community to engage in thoughtful dialogue about our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of our educational program. To supplement our institutional self-study, our medical students are currently engaged in an independent student analysis, the results of which will be incorporated in our LCME review and future plans.
We have established this website to keep the entire JABSOM ‘ohana, updated throughout the LCME accreditation process. We encourage you to visit the LCME website (www.lcme.org) to learn more about the LCME accreditation process and familiarize yourselves with the LCME standards, survey questions, and the self-study process. We extend a big mahalo for everyone’s cooperation and assistance in ensuring a successful outcome for our upcoming accreditation visit in January 2017.
Mahalo nui loa!
