Oct 17: Navigating Human Subjects Research Compliance at UH
October 17th, 2019
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
A Panel Presentation with Moderator Venkataraman Balaraman, MD
In 2017, UH implemented HIPAA Policy EP2.217. UH declared itself a hybrid covered entity under HIPAA, and JABSOM and UH Cancer Center declared themselves covered components within UH. All UH covered components must comply with HIPAA. Under HIPAA, Protected Health Information received or maintained by anyone at UH may not be used or disclosed for research except in compliance with HIPAA and all applicable UH policies. As a result of this policy, the process for human subjects research approvals at UH has had to be modified to comply. Learn from representatives of UH Information Technology Services, Office of Research Services, Office of Research Compliance, UH Cancer Center and JABSOM Privacy Boards about their roles in human subjects research and HIPAA compliance, and the associated processes. Limited refreshments provided.
