May 5: Partnership for Social Justice Symposium

May 5th, 2019

10:30 AM - 2:45 PM

Aloha community members! Please join us for this year’s Partnership for Social Justice Symposium hosted by students of the John A. Burns School of Medicine! The symposium will be on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 10:30 AM – 2:45 PM.

Every year, JABSOM’s Partnership for Social Justice Interest Group holds a symposium to highlight various topics in our healthcare community and its role in particular social justice issues. Two goals of our group include awareness and activism, so we aim to put together speakers who are leaders in their field to raise our own personal awareness but also teach us what we can constructively do about it– how does this fit into our lives as future healthcare providers, family members, and community members?

Here is our lineup for the day:
10:30 — Coffee and refreshments
10:45– Dr. Stephen Kemble, M. D. “What’s Wrong with ACA Payment and Care Delivery Reforms and What Would Work Better”
11:45– Steph Lee, RN. Discussing LGBTQ challenges in Healthcare
12:30– Lunch provided
1:00– Amanda Martinez, MPH. Discussing Mental Health in Hawaii
2:00– Dr. J.T. Miguel-Acido, PhD, “Storying Sovereign Health: Remembering What I Already Know”
This event is open to all members of our community and we encourage this to be a safe opportunity for learning and meeting other people who may share similar passions about social justice!

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP here!

Mahalo and we hope to see you at the symposium!
