Date/Time

May 23rd, 2018

5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The HOPE sports and performance meeting, in honor of the late Allen Richardson, is coming up! This meeting is intended for all those involved with the care of Hawai’i athletes. That includes doctors of multiple specialties, nurses, physician assistants, residents, fellows, etc. It is all about getting to hear from your talented colleagues and learning about sports medicine and performance topics.

HOPE (Hawai’i Orthopaedic and Performance Education) is a nonprofit entity designed to bring Hawai’i sports practitioners together for free food, fun, education, CME and giving back to the community we live and thrive in. This event typically lasts for 2 hours and up to 2 CME credits are available per meeting (accrediting body JABSOM HCCME Consortium). You are welcome to stay, eat and leave as you have time for.

This meeting will include panels and didactic discussions around injuries in athletes and patients leading active lifestyles. Two orthopaedic surgeons will be giving high yield summary lectures on hand and spine injuries in the injured athlete. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the very hot topic of safety in sports. Nearly all sports, most notably football and soccer currently, are being discussed on a national and even global level regarding high injury rates. This, along with lasting effects long after retirement from the sport have sparked an interest in making sports participation safer through rule changes, equipment modifications and eduction of parents, coaches and health practitioners alike. The panel will weigh in on the topics and audience participation is encouraged.
