This five-day workshop covers both lab practice and lectures for
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and other Artificial Reproductive
Technologies (ARTs) to understand fundamental and applied
The workshop, sponsored by the John A. Burns School of Medicine Institute for Biogenesis Research and the UH Mānoa Outreach College Professional Programs, consists of four different topics: (1) mouse IVF and embryo culture (lab practice), (2) mouse sperm cryopreservation (lab practice), (3) mouse Intracytoplasmic
Sperm Injection (ICSI) (demonstration), (4) human IVF
and ICSI (lecture).
• Practice and be familiar with the methods of mouse IVF,
preimplantation embryo culture, sperm freezing, and sperm analysis
• Understand the basic principles of IVF and ART in mice and humans
• Build a research network in Biogenesis
Who Should Attend:
The workshop is open to students, laboratory workers,
researchers, and others, both nationally and internationally,
who have basic knowledge of mammalian gametes (sperm and
oocytes) and are interested in learning IVF and ART. Participants
should have basic laboratory skills and must be 18 years of age
and older. Enrollment is limited to 12 participants.
Prerequisite: Prior to the workshop, students must complete
online biosafety and lab safety trainings. Instruction on how
to access the trainings will be provided to participants once
registration is completed.

Monday-Friday, June 17-21, 2019, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Early registration is $850 for students; $950 for working
professionals (by April 19, 2019). Standard registration is $950 for students; $1,100 for working professionals.
Registration deadline is May 24, 2019.
Course fees do not include airfare, meals, or accommodation;
campus housing available on a first come, first served basis.
