As part of its mission to build a culture of philanthropy and alumni involvement at JABSOM, the JABSOM Development team works closely with donors and prospective donors to secure major gifts in support of medical education, biomedical research, faculty and programmatic endowments, scholarships, and community outreach programs.

The team is also charged with increasing engagement among medical school alumni through reunion events and enhanced networking and works closely with the JABSOM Alumni Association in doing so. It also conducts the medical school’s annual Internal Giving and Medical Student Alumni Calling campaigns.

Raised in Hawaiʻi, Elaine earned her undergraduate degree in History from Hollins University in Virginia. She joined JABSOM from the Hawaiʻi Theatre Center, where she served as Director of Development for eight years.

Joanne Ikehara has worked at UH Foundation for more than 20 years and at the John A. Burns School of Medicine for almost 15 years, providing invaluable support to donors, faculty, and staff.
