| The fully accredited Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program accepts physicians who are graduates of either internal medicine or family practice residency programs. The first year of fellowship training is designed to lead to eligibility for the certificate of added qualifications (CAQ) in geriatric medicine. Additional years of fellowship are devoted to research, consultative medicine, medical education, medical administration, and concurrent advance degrees. |

| The goal of the Psychiatry Residency Program is to develop selected medical school graduates into psychiatrists skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. The fundamental philosophy on which the program rests is the understanding of human behavior on multiple levels and through integration of biological, psychological and sociocultural dimensions. The program provides a balanced, diverse theoretical orientation and offers training in a variety of therapeutic approaches. The program provides broad supervised clinical experience in the practice of contemporary psychiatry, as well as structured teaching. Individual supervision, didactic seminars, rounds and case conferences are the primary techniques used to convey knowledge, clinical skills and the professional attitudes appropriate for a psychiatrist. The program also offers advanced residency training in child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addictions psychiatry and the Triple Board (Pediatrics, General Psychiatry, Child Psychiatry). |

| The Surgical Critical Care (SCC) Fellowship Program is an approved one-year adult surgical critical care training program which seeks to prepare physicians to become dedicated surgical intensivists who will continue to carry on the spirit of teaching as well as to strive for improving patient care. Besides mastering the clinical knowledge of intensive care medicine, the SCC fellow will grow as a teacher, administrator, arbitrator, and researcher. Due to the nature of critical care medicine, difficult political and ethical issues will be part of the daily experience. At some point during the year, the SCC fellow will begin to act the role of an attending. This metamorphosis in roles comes from gaining knowledge, respect from colleagues and self-confidence. |

| The Surgical Residency Program utilizes a "team care" approach in which private attending physicians admit their patients to the resident surgical service. Residents complete a series of required rotations which prepare them to either continue their training in general surgery or in a surgical subspecialty. Throughout their five years of training, residents will have increasing responsibility for surgical care, culminating in their chief year, when they will assume total responsibility for patient care and administration of a surgical team. |
