Research in the Molecular Medicine and Infectious Diseases Laboratory focuses on the mitochondrial etiology of HIV complications in clinical studies using a mechanistic approach. Translational research studies are conducted to understand the mitochondrial pathogenesis of HIV complications, such as HIV-metabolic disease (including lipoatrophy and hepatic steatosis) HIV-peripheral neuropathy, and HIV associated dementia. The Laboratory Director is Dr. Mariana Gerschenson.
