The Asia-Pacific institute of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases collects data to develop early-warning systems for epidemic transmission of infectious diseases in the Asia-Pacific region by using the latest diagnostic, epidemiologic and information technology.

Environmental Health and Safety Office - JABSOM

Hawaii University Surgeons Group
The Hawaii University Surgeons group occupies Suite 501 of the new Physician’s Office Building (POB) III. Ten renown University of Hawaii affiliated surgeons have office, examination, procedure and meeting space within the 5000 square foot fifth floor facility.
Health Sciences Library
The new Health Sciences Library, which opened in the Spring of 2005, serves as an information resource not only for the John A. Burns School of Medicine, but also for the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus, the UH system, and the State. Emphasis is on Web-accessible materials, and collections include a wide variety of print and electronic resources, primarily in the clinical sciences.
Histology & Imaging Core Facility
The Histology & Imaging Core at Kaka’ako is supported by a generous grant from the Research Centers in Minority Institutions, and by the Center for Cardiovascular Research and the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology. It provides routine histology processing, specialized histochemical and immunohistological techniques, and access to several microscopic platforms. The core also provides technical assistance, training, and consultation in histological and imaging techniques to investigators throughout the University on a cost-recovery basis.

Neuroscience and Magnetic Resonance Research Program
Researchers in the Neuroscience and Magnetic Resonance Research Program are using a research dedicated 3-Tesla scanner to study the Brain and Brain Diseases. Specifically, the research team looks at how drug abuse affects the chemistry, physiology and functions of the brain. The Program aims to bring together scientists interested in finding interdisciplinary solutions in neuroscience and associated fields.
Office of Medical Education
OME oversees the JABSOM curriculum for the school. The Program for Medical Education in East Asia sponsors opportunities for faculty and students from Asian medical schools to learn about medical education in Hawaii and the US.

The Pacific Biosciences Research Center (formerly known as the Pacific Biomedical Research Center) is one of the most successful research institutes in the University of Hawaii system. Willed Body Donation Program
The Willed Body Program was established at JABSOM in 1967 to provide an opportunity for concerned community members to donate their bodies after death for use in medical science and education. Donated bodies are used primarily in the education of medical students and physicians while a few others may be used for various types of research such as the development of new and specific surgical procedures. Upon request, legal forms authorizing this selfless and caring gift are sent to the potential donor. A donor card is then provided once the bequeathal forms are received and processed.
