Surgery comprises the study and management of injury and disease amenable to operative treatment. The Department of Surgery provides instruction in the principles of general surgery, surgical subspecialties, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology, surgical anatomy and surgical research. In addition to medical student education, the department directs residency programs in general surgery and orthopedic surgery as well as a fellowship in surgical critical care. Faculty and facilities are available to direct clinical research for academic credit. The department also conducts and participates in continuing medical education programs for physicians and other health professionals. Clinical experiences are busy and varied, and are facilitated by the large number of faculty and sites, both on O'ahu and on neighboring islands.
